ABOCFA
Ghana
The Annual General Meeting of members of the ABOCFA Farmer Association, (AGM) took place this year on July 28, 2022 and a whole new group of farmer leaders was elected. There was much music and dancing and celebration. Though I was unable to attend, it is important to note the importance of this democratic process for managing and recognizing the independence of the unique assembly of farmers. Their association allows them to be certified organic, totally traceable from farm to finished chocolate bars, and allows them to command a premium price above and beyond the Ghana market price. This is fairly unique in Ghana where a majority of farmers aren’t able to obtain premiums for their products. We pay consistent price premiums in exchange for this quality, traceability and certification, and we are proud to be one of the few companies who are able to purchase cacao from ABOCFA.
