These homemade versions of that childhood favorite, Pop Tarts, are deliciously playful and super simple (especially if you’ve got some pie dough in the freezer). You can use any of our Amaze Bars for the filling, but here in the Test Kitchen our favorites are Raspberry Crunch and Coconut! If you’re planning to transport a batch, skip the icing, as it gets a bit messy if the tarts are jostled around.
Yields 5 pop tarts
Ingredients:
1 recipe of your favorite pie dough
1 egg, beaten
1 Taza Amaze Bar, finely chopped
Icing (optional)
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1/4 cup cream, plus more as needed
To Prepare:
1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and preheat to 350 degrees.
2. Roll out pie dough and cut into 10 evenly sized rectangles. Brush 5 of the rectangles with egg then divide chopped Amaze Bar between brushed dough making sure the chocolate is in the center of the dough so that there’s a border of dough surrounding the chocolate.
3. Place remaining dough rectangles on top of egg/chocolate covered dough and crimp edges with a fork. Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Top with icing if desired.
